New report offers six lessons to boost leadership for women with disability
People with Disability Australia released findings from a three-year project aimed at improving workplace leadership opportunities for women with disability.

Project scope and participants
The national initiative ran from January 2023 through July 2026. It involved 107 women, including 46 mentors and 46 mentees, across nine industries. Researchers worked with employers to strengthen leadership pathways and build inclusive workplaces.
Barriers before the project
Before joining the program, 82 percent of surveyed participants said they faced barriers to leadership roles. More than 60 percent also reported low confidence in their ability to progress. Common obstacles included inaccessible practices and workplace cultures that ignored potential.
Outcomes after mentoring
Participants gained greater confidence through disability-led education and professional networking. They formed stronger connections and clarified their career goals during the study. The organization hopes these lessons will help remove remaining obstacles for future cohorts.
