New method reads qubit state without destroying quantum information

Researchers in Brazil and China published a study proposing a way to read qubits without collapsing their state.

Reading quantum bits without collapse

Direct measurement usually alters the content of a quantum bit. A new approach uses an Andreev qubit to produce an oscillating electric supercurrent. This current acts as a macroscopic indicator that reveals the qubit state.

Eliminating need for auxiliary qubits

The study suggests this technique removes the requirement for ancilla qubits used in current methods. José Carlos Egues from Brazil and Yugui Yao from China led the work. Their findings appear in the journal Physical Review B.
