NASA plans to launch UVEX ultraviolet space telescope in 2031
NASA has announced that the UltraViolet EXplorer space telescope will launch in 2031.

Mission scope and leadership
The UVEX mission will be led by Caltech. It is designed to perform an all-sky survey using near- and far-ultraviolet light.
Scientific motivation for launch
Many astronomical phenomena reveal themselves fully only in ultraviolet light rather than visible light. Current technology limits human observation to the visible spectrum, creating a selection bias that hides transient events like stellar flares and exploding stars.
Expected observational capabilities
The new telescope will allow observers to see calamitous and transient events that are nearly continuous in ultraviolet wavelengths. This capability addresses the illusion of an uneventful night sky caused by our inability to detect non-visible light.
