NASA awards SpaceX $946 million for three extra ISS crew missions
NASA has granted SpaceX a contract modification worth $946 million to fund three additional astronaut trips to the International Space Station.
Contract value and scope
The agency confirmed the award covers ground operations, launches, and recovery services for each flight. This funding also includes cargo transportation and lifeboat capability while the spacecraft remains docked. The total number of missions awarded to SpaceX under this agreement now reaches 17.
Current mission status
The Crew-12 mission is currently in orbit and attached to the space station structure. SpaceX vehicles can transport up to four astronauts along with essential supplies to the orbital outpost. NASA plans to maintain continuous access through two different private spaceflight companies.
Future flexibility
This specific award does not stop the agency from seeking further contract modifications later. The advance notice of purchase intention came before this final modification was issued. Future transportation services may be added if NASA decides to request them again.
