Lac des Brenets lake dries up after record heat and drought
Locals in Les Brenets say the French-Swiss border lake has dried up following a record-breaking hot summer.

Exposed lake bed shows distress
The words HELP and SOS have been scratched into the weeds growing on the exposed lake bed. Amateur local historian David Favre described the situation as emotionally devastating for residents who grew up swimming there. The drought has ruined pleasure boat tourism in the area.
Water levels drop significantly
The Doubs River waterfall that ends the lake has now stopped flowing due to low water levels. Geological fissures drain water underground while below-average rainfall contributes to the emptying of the reservoir. Authorities face questions about whether the lake will return to lasting good health.
