Casualties linked to falling trees

Officials reported two deaths in Alabama and two in Florida. Two victims died when trees fell on their homes, while another person died from carbon monoxide poisoning after running a generator inside a closed garage. Four family members of the generator victim were hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning.

Power outages across multiple states

About 670,000 residents remained without power in Florida, Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi as the storm weakened. Power restoration was marked as a priority for authorities while teams assessed damage to infrastructure. Some 16,000 utility linemen prepared to respond to the storm.

Ongoing flood and tornado risks

Forecasters warned that flooding from rising rivers could continue as the system moved inland. Hazardous conditions including storm surges and flash flooding were expected across parts of the US Southeast. The National Hurricane Center noted a continued risk of tornadoes across Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.
