Fraunhofer researchers develop diamond laser sensor for magnetic field readout
Researchers at Fraunhofer IAF have developed a new quantum sensor that achieves 100 percent optical contrast in magnetic-field readout.

New sensor combines sensitivity and range
Scientists created a laser-enhanced device using nitrogen-vacancy centers inside diamond. This technology improves the ratio of sensitivity to dynamic range by up to 590 times compared to current methods. The system operates at room temperature while measuring both magnitude and direction of magnetic fields.
Breakthrough enables better medical tools
The results were published in the journal Nature Communications. These findings open new possibilities for diagnostics, navigation systems, and resource exploration projects. The approach avoids previous trade-offs between high sensitivity and robust dynamic range.
