Researcher investigates genetic rescue effects

Lauren Deaner is using her field experience to examine how genetics and behavior influence species recovery. Her doctoral research focuses on a unique translocation initiative that brings birds from different genetic units together. This project aims to understand how mate choice changes when populations are mixed.

Recovery efforts began decades ago

Regional conservation work started in the late 1990s through mitigation led by the Mosaic Company. The current effort is managed by Raoul Boughton with guidance from past biologist Reed Bowman. Deaner and Sahas Barve serve as co-principal investigators for this ongoing initiative.
