Endangered damselfly spotted at restored River Ash site near Hertford
A scarce blue-tailed damselfly was recorded at a restored stretch of the River Ash near Hertford in late summer.

Habitat restoration project success
The four-mile section of the river at Easneye Estate returned to its original path last year. Monitoring teams found the insect at two locations close together during the season. This site now supports brown trout spawning on newly created gravel beds.
Broader conservation assessment results
A recent review changed the status of this species from Near Threatened to Endangered. The update shows eight species are now classified as endangered compared to four in 2008. Other groups like mayflies and stoneflies also showed population increases after the work.
