Dolphin Rocky dies in Spanish marine park after transfer from France
Conservation groups condemned the death of a dolphin named Rocky at Selwo Marina near Malaga on Saturday night.

Deaths follow recent transfers
Rocky was a 29-year-old male dolphin who had been moved from Marineland in France to Spain in July. His death adds to the toll of other sea mammals recently relocated to Spanish facilities. A group called Sea Shepherd France stated that Rocky's passing followed the deaths of five animals transferred from a Canadian park.
Ownership links between parks
Both Marineland on the French Riviera and Selwo Marina are owned by Parques Reunidos, which is controlled by Swedish investment group EQT AB. The Canadian facility that sent animals to Spain and the United States was a different park not connected to the French location.
Other mammals also died
Three belugas transferred from the Canadian Marineland to a Chicago park also died recently. Another dolphin and a beluga whale moved from that same Canadian source to Valencia perished as well.
