Chinese scientists report low job satisfaction but remain optimistic about careers
A survey published this month in the journal Nature found that Chinese researchers are less satisfied with their jobs than peers elsewhere but hold more optimism for their future careers compared to counterparts in the US and Britain.

Survey results show low satisfaction
Only 51 per cent of the 157 Chinese respondents said they were satisfied with their current jobs. This figure represents a drop of 24 per cent from the data collected in 2018. The study included 3,882 participants from 133 countries across various disciplines and sectors.
Optimism outweighs current frustrations
Despite their dissatisfaction, these scholars expressed confidence that they will have more successful careers than researchers in the United States and Britain. The results come from a voluntary participation process rather than a mandatory census of all scientists. Consequently, the findings cannot be taken as fully representative of every Chinese scientist working across different regions.
