Chinese researchers set new temperature record on Tiangong space station
Scientists aboard China's Tiangong space station achieved a record-breaking low temperature for physics experiments on November 6, 2026.
New quantum research conditions created
Researchers published their findings in the journal Science regarding atoms cooled near absolute zero. These ultra-cold atoms form a Bose, Einstein condensate that acts as a shared quantum wave. This state allows scientists to study new physics and precision measurements in space.
Overcoming gravity limitations in orbit
Previous methods using magnetic levitation forced atoms into the same internal spin state, creating specific issues. Optical traps using laser beams offer more flexible control but had not directly produced a condensate under microgravity before this study. The new approach successfully created the condensate while managing gravitational restrictions.
