Chinese researchers develop additives for scalable perovskite solar cell coating
A team from the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics and Dalian Jiaotong University has created a new additive strategy for large-area slot-die coating of methylammonium-free perovskite films.
Strategy addresses crystallization challenges
The researchers found that the methylammonium-free system suffers from slower intrinsic crystallization and stronger phase-segregation tendencies. To fix this, they used formamidinium thiocyanate to promote nucleation and crystal growth after vacuum-flash treatment. Rubidium thiocyanate was added to help stabilize the photoactive perovskite phase within the lattice.
Additives improve film stability
Rubidium ions occupy the A site of the perovskite lattice to relax strain and lower activation energy. This approach allows for uniform crystallization during ambient-air coating processes. The study was published in the journal Advanced Materials.
