Archaeologist discovers Roman fort in Wales linked to Macsen Wledig legend
An archaeologist has identified a Roman fort in west Wales that researchers believe connects to the ancient Welsh legend of Macsen Wledig.

Discovery begins with villa site
The research started in 2002 when a team rediscovered a Roman villa located about 30 kilometers west of Wales. This initial find prompted questions about why such a significant site existed in that remote location.
Road network investigation continues
Archaeologists traced a stretch of Roman road identified by Richard Fenton in the vale of Whitland during excavations in 1995. Further work in 2022 led to the identification of additional Romano-British sites and a new fort.
Connection to folklore emerges
The newly found fort may provide evidence supporting the medieval story of Macsen Wledig. Researchers are now examining how this ancient structure relates to local folklore traditions.
