ACCESS-NRI releases dynamic ice sheet modeling workflow for Australian climate suite
ACCESS-NRI has released four components of a new dynamic ice sheet model to the Australian research community.
New model replaces static proxies
Researchers previously used static proxies to approximate ice sheet impacts instead of dynamic simulations. The new Ice Sheet and Sea-level System Model workflow allows for two-way interaction between ice, ocean, and atmosphere. This integration marks the first attempt to include a dynamic model within the ACCESS climate suite.
Scope covers entire Antarctica
Earlier work typically focused on individual regions rather than the entirety of Antarctica. The updated system will now address all Antarctic ice sheets in global climate projections. This change helps improve understanding of how these vast land masses influence weather and sea levels.
