Turkey Saudi Arabia and Pakistan plan urgent military chiefs meeting under new pact
Foreign ministers from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan discussed plans to hold an urgent meeting of their military chiefs in New York on Friday.
Agreement details and scope
The three nations signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement in August. The pact stipulates that an attack on one ally counts as an attack on all parties. Foreign ministers met at the United Nations General Assembly to review these arrangements.
Planned military coordination
Officials intend to convene a meeting of chiefs of staff to explore ways to assist Riyadh. Turkish Defence Ministry confirmed that General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu will travel to Saudi Arabia for these talks. The foreign ministers also condemned recent attacks on civilian facilities in the Kingdom.
