Medical scans revealed the baby had hypoplastic left heart syndrome shortly before birth. Ahmed and Gilkar asked West to terminate the pregnancy based on a contract clause allowing action for fetal abnormalities. West refused the request and traveled to Texas where abortion laws differ.
Texas official ordered medical care
Republican attorney general Ken Paxton intervened in the situation after it gained national attention. A Dallas judge subsequently issued an order requiring the infant to receive necessary medical treatment. The case continues without federal court involvement at this time.
