Sindh Assembly unanimously adopts resolution demanding end to daily fuel price hikes
The Sindh Assembly in Karachi unanimously passed a resolution on Tuesday calling for an immediate stop to daily increases in petroleum prices.
Resolution seeks federal intervention
PTI legislator Muhammad Owais moved the resolution during the House's private members' day. The document states that Pakistan does not import petrol every day, so global price fluctuations should not be passed to consumers immediately. Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon supported the motion and urged the federal government to provide relief.
Criticism of coalition partner
The minister criticized MQM for its silence on the issue while holding a position in the federal cabinet. He noted that the party previously left a government when petrol prices rose by just one rupee. Sharjeel called on MQM representatives to explain why they are not raising their voice against rising costs.
Call to abolish levy
The minister stated that the treasury is collecting more than Rs100 per litre in petroleum levy. He demanded the abolition of this levy and asked all political parties to speak up on the matter.
