Senate panel questions low conviction rates in child abuse cases

Officials present operational reports on cases

Representatives from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home Department and investigation units delivered an update on actions taken against abuse. Senators noted that evidence often degrades during transportation to facilities in other provinces. The group directed officials to submit exact terms of reference for community-level child protection units.

Surge in reported abuse cases

The committee reviewed data showing a significant increase in peer-to-peer child abuse incidents across the country. Reports indicate that 17,000 such cases were alleged nationwide while 855 occurred specifically in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2025. Social media awareness has driven higher reporting rates for street begging and child labour issues.
