Saudi AH-6i helicopter crashes in Najran killing two crew members

A Saudi-led coalition spokesman confirmed on Sunday that an AH-6i reconnaissance helicopter crashed in the Najran region of Saudi Arabia due to a technical malfunction, killing its two crew members.

Crash location and cause

The incident occurred in an area under the jurisdiction of the Saudi National Guard Ministry. Brigadier General Turki al-Maliki issued the statement regarding the crash on Sunday.

Conflicting claims about the event

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed the group shot down an Apache helicopter near Najran while it targeted their positions. Coalition spokesman Al-Maliki responded to this claim by posting a photo of several Apaches and stating they would soon return to the battlefield.

Regional security context

The southwestern area of Najran has faced attacks by Iran-aligned Houthis in recent weeks. Fighting between the coalition and the Yemen-based militant group has escalated during this period.
