Qatar Prime Minister says mediation between US and Iran continues

Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stated on Friday that ongoing mediation efforts between the United States and Iran aim to prevent regional escalation.

Diplomatic engagement remains active

The Prime Minister told an audience at Oxford University that Qatar has worked with US colleagues over the past weeks. He noted that these exchanges have not stopped, even though the current pace of diplomatic talks is slower than before. Officials in Tehran are also described as having wise voices that helped prevent the situation from spiralling out of control.

Agreement expectations for both sides

Al Thani emphasized that a perfect peace deal will never be achieved, but a good agreement is possible. He stated that willingness to find a solution persists despite the upcoming US midterm election. The Prime Minister warned against waiting indefinitely for an ideal outcome while ignoring available opportunities for progress.

Regional stability concerns

Qatar's leadership insists that the crisis cannot be left unresolved by any party. Reports indicate that Iran has proposed a seven-day plan to lift port blockades, though Washington has not yet accepted it. The United States has not announced any attacks on targets inside Iran at this time.
