Motion prompts official probe demand

A treasury member submitted a motion in the Punjab Assembly alleging systematic corruption within the distribution company. The speaker demanded an investigation into these practices after hearing serious allegations against LESCO officials. An adjournment motion was filed on Thursday to address issues including forced power outages and extortion.

Officials face bribery and extortion charges

The speaker alleged that officers demanded bribes ranging from Rs150,000 to Rs200,000 without resolving consumer complaints. Residents were reportedly forced to pay up to Rs500,000 for transformer repairs or replacements. Police evidence disproved false theft cases filed against consumers who faced disconnection of power supply.

Committee set up for inquiry

Malik announced the constitution of a committee to investigate the allegations against LESCO officials. Evidence gathered during the inquiry will be forwarded to the prime minister for further action. Officials who fail to appear before the relevant forum may face consequences under the proposed plan.
