Over 130 lawyers say UK sanctions on Israeli settlements fall short
More than 130 legal experts wrote to Prime Minister Andy Burnham on Tuesday saying recent sanctions on Israeli settlements do not meet the United Kingdom's obligations under a 2024 International Court of Justice ruling.

Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced an import ban on goods from illegal settlements in Palestine. Government sources confirmed these measures cover areas in the Golan Heights and East Jerusalem as well. The United Kingdom declared that the occupation of Palestinian territory is illegal last week.

Eleven other countries joined the UK in supporting or considering similar trade restrictions. Canada, Denmark, Finland, France and others are part of this group of nations. The letter notes that Israel's apartheid practice has not been impacted by these findings.
