New section added to ordinance

State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry presented the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority Amendment Bill, 2026. The proposal inserts a new Section 8A into the existing Ogra Ordinance from 2002. Licensees must submit their total revenue requirements quarterly for review regarding wellhead gas and imported costs.

Government sets thirty day timeline

Ogra will advise the federal government after reviewing these submissions. The authority requires a response within thirty days to issue minimum charges and sale prices. This process covers retail consumers across different categories without holding public hearings for price revisions.

Aims to curb circular debt

The statement of objects states the goal is to align tariffs with market realities quickly. Adjustments will account for rupee-dollar parity and fluctuations in imported gas prices. Officials hope this mechanism ensures financial stability throughout the entire gas supply chain.
