Retired Lt Gen Nauman Mahmood appointed first secretary general of Makkah Defence Alliance
Pakistan announced on Wednesday that retired Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood is the first secretary general for the Makkah Defence Alliance secretariat being established in Riyadh.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement confirming the selection of Lt Gen (retd) Nauman Mahmood. He will lead the General Secretariat of the tripartite pact between Turkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. This role follows a decision made during an inaugural meeting held in Istanbul last month.
Secretariat location and term
Officials from all three nations agreed to set up the secretariat in Saudi Arabia. The initial secretary general will serve for a period of three years before the next appointment. The agreement signed on August 7 allows member states to treat an attack against one as an attack against all.
High-level attendance at inaugural meeting
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif represented Pakistan at the gathering. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman also attended. The Strategic Political and Defence Committee was established under the tripartite pact during this session.
