Punjab government requests Rangers deployment in four districts for upcoming protests

The letter cites Article 245 of the Constitution and sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act as the basis for the request. Punjab authorities discussed the situation at a Standing Committee meeting on September 20. The Islamabad High Court previously directed that government resources must not be used for protests.
Police contributions from other provinces
The federal government has asked provinces to send additional police personnel to assist Islamabad authorities. Punjab is providing 19,000 officers while Sindh is sending a contingent of 1,950 personnel.
