Punjab approves lighter textbooks with QR codes starting April 2027

Curriculum review and approval process

Officials reviewed subjects including English, mathematics, social studies, Urdu, and early childhood education during a special meeting. The Punjab Education Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority developed the new content for students from Montessori to grade five. This material was sent to Cambridge International Education for assessment before final printing begins in January.

Textbook volume and digital features

The revised books will contain 25 per cent fewer pages than previous editions. Each textbook includes QR codes that allow students to access video lessons related to the covered topics. Authorities stated these changes aim to lower costs and shift away from rote learning methods.

Mental health and discipline measures

The meeting directed steps for mental health support and online counselling for both teachers and students. Officials agreed in principle to legislation preventing corporal punishment while proposing discipline corners instead of physical punishment. Saturdays will be dedicated to training teachers across the province under this new framework.
