Pakistan military says Makkah pact has no regional ambitions
A Pakistan military spokesperson told Al Arabiya English on Wednesday that the new defence agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye aims only for collective deterrence.
Nature of the agreement
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated the pact is strictly defensive with no aggressive elements. He confirmed there are no hidden regional military aspirations behind the tripartite arrangement.
Relationship with other alliances
The spokesperson explained that the mutual defence agreement complements existing independent relationships rather than competing with them. The three nations maintain separate ties with other states and international blocs outside this specific pact.
Response to attacks
Chaudhry declined to reveal specific mechanisms for responding if one country faces an attack. He noted that the leadership of all three nations would jointly decide on any course of action in such situations.
