Pakistan finance minister meets IMF mission to start economic reviews
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met with an International Monetary Fund team in Islamabad on Thursday to begin formal negotiations for Pakistan's funding programmes.

Negotiations cover two major funds
The visiting group led by Iva Petrova will remain in the country until early October. Officials are conducting the fourth review of the Extended Fund Facility and the third review of the Resilience Support Facility. Successful completion of these checks could unlock billions in funding by late November or December.
Government cites revenue shortfalls
Ministers told the team that Gulf War tensions and Strait of Hormuz disruptions reduced first-quarter income. The government also announced a requirement for ten thousand federal employees to declare their assets digitally by October 30, 2026.
Clarification on PIA aircraft
Adviser Khurram Schehzad stated the state does not purchase planes for the privatised Pakistan International Airlines. He added that no sovereign guarantee exists for taxpayer-funded loans to buy jets for the carrier.
