Pakistan distributes 500,000 refurbished Chromebooks to high-performing Grade 9 students
The Pakistani government plans to distribute 500,000 refurbished Chromebooks to eligible Grade 9 students starting in October 2026.

Eligibility and selection process
Students must achieve a minimum of 50% on their latest SSC-I scores. The Inter Boards Coordination Commission will verify these results before selection begins. Eligible candidates include pupils from public schools, private foundations, and registered madaris.
Regional device allocation
Punjab receives the largest share of 181,090 devices while Balochistan gets 31,815. Islamabad is allocated 100,000 units and AJK plus Gilgit-Baltistan receive 25,000 combined. The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training runs the scheme with the TT Care Foundation.
Device specifications and support
The provided laptops include MiFi internet connectivity for offline areas. Officials state that selection rewards academic results rather than personal recommendations. Distribution will continue until the total quota of 500,000 units is exhausted.
