Pakistan and Turkiye elevate historic friendship to strategic partnership
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that Pakistan and Turkiye have transformed their long-standing friendship into a multifaceted strategic partnership during an event in Islamabad on Thursday.

Defence pact strengthens regional deterrence
The leaders highlighted the Makkah Defence Agreement signed on August 7 between Pakistan, Turkiye and Saudi Arabia. Shehbaz Sharif stated that this agreement strengthens collective deterrence and reinforces a shared commitment to regional peace. The premier noted that the pact marks an important milestone in cooperation between Islamabad and Ankara.
Support during recent conflict acknowledged
Shehbaz Sharif praised Turkiye for standing firmly by Pakistan when India initiated unilateral aggression in May 2025. He described the support received during that four-day conflict as a profound source of comfort and strength for the Pakistani people. The prime minister emphasized that this act of solidarity will forever remain etched in the memories of both nations.
Cooperation spans multiple sectors
The partnership now covers political dialogue, trade, investment, defence, education, culture and people-to-people ties. Both countries intend to continue championing dialogue, diplomacy and respect for international law while bolstering their defences. Stronger economic cooperation and joint ventures are identified as necessary next steps for the relationship.
