OGDC signs contract with PINSTECH for lithium exploration services
Oil and Gas Development Company Limited and the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology signed a contract in Islamabad on Tuesday to provide analytical support for lithium extraction.
Scope of the new agreement
Under the deal, PINSTECH will perform Inductively Coupled Plasma profiling on produced water and brine from candidate OGDC wells. The analysis will quantify lithium, rare earth elements, precious metals, and radioactive elements within the samples.
Volume of samples collected
More than 2,000 samples will be gathered to build a comprehensive geochemical database for the company. This effort aims to rank wells by content and map areas of high or low concentration.
Goal for waste streams
The exercise intends to turn produced water, previously treated as waste, into a potential source of critical minerals. The technical data will provide the basis for evaluating the feasibility of Direct Lithium Extraction.
