Lahore High Court extends suspension of PMDC directive for Afghan medical students
The Lahore High Court in Lahore extended a suspension of a Pakistan Medical and Dental Council directive on Friday after lawyers requested more time to reply.
Court grants extra time for replies
Lawyers representing the council and the University of Health Sciences asked Justice Khalid Ishaq for additional time to file written responses. The judge approved their request and adjourned the hearing until a later date is fixed.
Students seek registration for house jobs
Five Afghan medical graduates filed a plea asking the court to allow them PMDC registration to pursue their house jobs. They stated that they completed a five-year MBBS programme under the Higher Education Commission-administered Allama Iqbal Scholarship but faced delays in registration.
Earlier directive barred admissions and return
The council issued a notification on September 1 directing Afghan students to return to Afghanistan. This order also prevented medical colleges from granting admission or placement to these students for the current academic session.
