Trade relations remain stagnant

Ambassador Lepel stated that bilateral trade volume has not seen significant improvement since she returned to the post. She noted that figures have stayed around €3.5 billion since 2017 despite the countries possessing immense economic potential. Both nations possess the capacity to expand cooperation for mutual benefit if they work closely together.

GSP+ renewal is critical

Pakistan's status under the Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus is currently up for renewal ahead of a new framework launching in 2028. The European Union published a report outlining key compliance areas that officials hope Pakistan will address convincingly to retain its preferential trade status.

Regional diplomacy receives praise

The ambassador commended Pakistan's diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing regional tensions, particularly regarding the recent US-Iran standoff. She highlighted these efforts as a positive contribution to promoting peace in the area.
