Premium costs rise sharply

The average cost for a family plan reached $7,471 according to the KFF Employer Health Benefits Survey. This represents a 9% jump compared to recent increases of 6% and 7%. Small business employees faced even larger percentage increases than those at large companies.

Employers cover most costs

Employers have shouldered the majority of these rising premium increases so far in 2026. The overall cost of health care is climbing and driving these higher payments for workers. KFF describes its survey as a gold-standard source for tracking these financial changes.
