Women warned against self-medicating during HRT product shortages in Northern Ireland
Health officials in Northern Ireland have advised women not to switch hormone replacement therapy brands without medical guidance due to supply disruptions affecting specific patches.

Supply issues disrupt major brands
The Department of Health confirmed that supplies for two leading hormone patch brands face manufacturing or distribution delays. Pharmacist Paul Irvine noted that these interruptions involve Estradot transdermal and FemSeven Conti products currently on the market.
Experts urge professional guidance
Irvine explained that patients often become accustomed to a specific brand before trying alternatives which might cause side effects. Dr Ursula Mason added that finding a substitute can create significant anxiety for women who have found a preparation that works well.
Substitution rules remain strict
Mason stated that current protocols allow substitution only when the active ingredient and dose match exactly. She assured patients that pharmacists will guide them toward correct alternatives while maintaining safety standards.
