WHO says Pakistan mental health treatment gap reaches 95 percent

The World Health Organization reported at a summit in Islamabad that Pakistan faces a 95 percent treatment gap for mental healthcare.

Scale of the shortage

Officials stated that approximately 32.4 million people in the country require mental health care. Only about five percent of those needing services currently have access to them. The organization noted that roughly 0.19 psychiatrists serve every 100,000 residents compared to high-income nations.

Global summit outcomes

Delegates issued the Islamabad Declaration for Global Mental Health during the event which ended on Friday. Representatives from the government promised to translate their National Mental Health Policy Framework into measurable results. The conference agreed to move from short-term projects toward sustainable financing and accountable action.
