Former ABC news anchor Richard Morecroft has died at his home on the south coast of New South Wales at age 70.

Cause and location of death

A spokesperson confirmed he passed away at a time of his choosing earlier this year. He was diagnosed with cancer and died peacefully beside his partner, Alison Mackay.

Morecroft presented the 7pm news bulletin for nearly two decades until he left in 2002. Born in 1956, he moved from England to Adelaide before starting his work as an announcer.
