Punjab government approves Rs500m seed money for Centre of Excellence

The Punjab government approved a Rs500 million fund at the fifth Board of Governors meeting of the Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism in Lahore.

Fund allocation and meeting details

Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique chaired the session held under the Punjab Home Department. The board ratified decisions from the fourth meeting while authorities presented an implementation report. Relevant officials also submitted a report regarding the Punjab Youth Innovation and Incubation Competition 2026.

Competition project submissions

The evaluation committee received 154 innovative projects from 51 universities across the province. Experts conducted a transparent review to shortlist the top 50 entries for further consideration. Participants were allowed to present their work directly before the technical committee.

Top university project winners

Students from the University of Management and Technology won first place for reducing DNA testing costs. Fatima Jinnah Medical University students secured second position with a project on lowering cancer diagnosis expenses. A student from Superior University also advanced in the competition rankings.
