Pakistan Medical Council waives MDCAT requirement for foreign medical school applicants

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council announced in Islamabad that it is removing the MDCAT exam requirement for students applying to foreign medical colleges.

Council removes entrance test rule

Officials at the council issued a public notice stating that Pakistani students no longer need to pass the admission test for overseas institutions. This exemption applies specifically to those intending to pursue medical or dental degrees outside Pakistan. The decision follows recent changes regarding the duration of local dental programs.

Investigation into past exam results

Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal ordered an investigation into alleged irregularities in the Sindh region concerning the Medical and Dental College Admission Test. The Ministry of National Health Services wrote to the council president requesting a detailed review of all test scores. Authorities asked officials to analyze candidate numbers, pass rates, and highest marks on a center-by-center basis.

Program duration dispute resolved

The council recently reversed its plan to extend the Bachelor of Dental Surgery program from four years to five years. Senate Standing Committee on Health directed the body to formally notify the continuation of the existing four-year curriculum. Officials informed the committee that they had withdrawn their earlier notification regarding the extension.
