Northern Roots opens new eco-park facility in Oldham
Northern Roots charity will open a new public facility at its Oldham site on 19 September.
Former industrial land becomes green space
The 65-hectare location previously housed cotton mills, coalmines and an industrial railway. About 24 hectares of the area later became a tip before nature reclaimed much of the site.
New centre includes farm and cafe
The upcoming opening features a production kitchen, shop, performance space and forestry skills centre. Visitors will also find outdoor play areas alongside an urban farm within the grounds.
Partnership aims to help community members
Oldham council partners with the charity to treat the land as a valuable asset rather than a burden. The organisation runs seven activity programmes covering farming, arts, sports and business learning to engage residents.
