Northern Ireland leaders warned over lack of plan for ageing population
Commissioner Siobhan Casey says Northern Ireland leaders are failing to plan for an ageing society in a new report.

Population numbers set to shift
Official projections indicate that people over 65 will outnumber children next year. The total population is expected to fall slightly over the next 25 years while those aged over 65 rise by almost 45 percent.
Health and housing face pressure
The healthcare system already feels the impacts of an ageing society. Challenges will also appear in housing, public transport and workplaces across the region.
Coordinated action remains absent
Siobhan Casey stated that Northern Ireland has not developed a long-term approach for this demographic change. She noted that governments worldwide consider the economic impact of the dependency ratio.
