Calorie intake rose significantly over time

The average daily calorie count for coffee drinks grew from 43 to 60 calories during the study period. Researchers noted that the volume of coffee consumed by Americans stayed relatively stable throughout these years.

Non-dairy creamer became the top source

By 2018, non-dairy creamer contributed about 19 calories per day to the average cup. This amount was more than double the contribution recorded in 2003 and surpassed sugar or dairy milk.

Study data came from national cycles

Investigators analyzed information from eight consecutive cycles of a major nutrition survey. The analysis categorized beverages based on whether they contained dairy milk, half-and-half, or non-dairy milk.
