Social anxiety drives new users

Gracey Mungulu started vaping at age 16 after seeing classmates use it frequently. She says the habit helps her manage social anxiety by giving her something to hold and put in her mouth.

Vaping popularity grows among youth

The number of non-smokers who vape has risen year-on-year according to ONS data. Gracey notes that seeing others use the device made her try it herself until she became dependent on it.

Health risks remain unclear long term

The NHS states that while vaping is less harmful than smoking, its long-term effects are not yet clear. Vaping contains nicotine which is a highly addictive substance according to medical authorities.
