Low Awareness Among Men

Researchers commissioned an online questionnaire to test knowledge levels regarding diet and cancer. The results showed that just 20 percent of respondents knew dairy consumption increases prostate cancer risk. Only one in five men surveyed had received information from a medical professional about this specific nutrition link.

Potential Dietary Changes

Once informed about the risks, 66 percent of participants said they would reduce their dairy intake. Over half of those surveyed also recognized that exercise and eating fruits or vegetables may lower risk. About 76 percent supported warning labels on dairy products to inform consumers about associated dangers.

Other Risk Factors

The study noted that body fat and family history might impact risk more than dairy products alone. Over half of respondents were aware that fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans could reduce cancer risk. The survey involved 1,102 males living in the United States.
