Low-dose GLP-1 use linked to sustained weight loss in new study
Researchers published findings on August 31 regarding weight loss outcomes for patients taking sustained low doses of semaglutide and tirzepatide.

Weight loss results by drug type
After one year, individuals maintaining low-dose tirzepatide lost approximately 5.5 percent of their body weight. Those on sustained low-dose semaglutide saw a reduction of about 2.2 percent over the same period. Lower doses produced more modest weight loss compared to higher dosing levels.
Side effects and safety profile
Sustained low-dose semaglutide was associated with lower rates of some side effects than higher doses. The study analyzed electronic health records from 814 individuals using semaglutide and 1,016 using tirzepatide. Participants met specific criteria involving at least three doses spanning a minimum of six months.
Study limitations and context
The research did not establish that participants were intentionally microdosing the medications. Using these drugs outside approved schedules remains unapproved by the FDA or manufacturers. The findings appear in Biology Methods & Protocols based on real-world usage data.
