Guernsey health commission launches alcohol scorecard campaign for islanders
The Health Improvement Commission for Guernsey and Alderney has introduced a new alcohol consumption scorecard to help residents track their weekly intake against official guidelines.

Scorecards arrive in letterboxes
Residents will receive the monitoring tool directly through their mail. The scheme allows people to note their weekly units and compare results with recommended limits. Andrea Nightingale described the method as a simple way to understand current intake levels.
Survey shows high drinking rates
A 2023 Wellbeing Survey found that 35.2% of adults over 16 who drink alcohol consumed more than 14 units a week. This figure exceeds the UK Chief Medical Officers' low-risk drinking guidelines for both men and women. The charity notes that calculating units can be difficult without this specific tool.
Guidelines suggest two free days
Official recommendations state that alcohol should be spread over three or more days each week. Residents are also advised to have at least two alcohol-free days every week. The campaign aims to give people confidence to plan future drinking habits.
