Fifteen NHS staff sacked over Valdo Calocane victim records access
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust dismissed fifteen employees after they accessed medical records of victims from the June 2023 Valdo Calocane attack.

Staff dismissals and warnings issued
The trust confirmed that doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals faced disciplinary action. In total, fifteen staff members were dismissed while others received written warnings during the investigation. Fifteen final written warnings and two first written warnings were also handed out to personnel involved in the inquiry.
Medical director addresses families
Dr Manjeet Shehmar stated there is no excuse for accessing patient records without a legitimate reason. He expressed deep sorrow that the victims families had to endure this additional breach of trust. The medical director apologized for compounding the heartbreak caused by the attack with these staff actions.
New systems and education plans
The organization is introducing a new system designed to detect possible data breaches immediately. Staff members are also receiving education on appropriate access procedures to keep records safe. The trust continues to investigate inappropriate access and will take further action as necessary.
