Chinese retiree Wang Ying shrinks thyroid tumour after Antarctica bird photography trip
Wang Ying, a 67-year-old retired school administrator from Kunming, China, discovered her thyroid cancer had reduced following a month-long bucket-list expedition to Antarctica.

Medical diagnosis and travel decision
Doctors in Yunnan province advised immediate surgery for the thyroid cancer diagnosed in 2013. Instead of operating, Wang spent her savings on equipment and flew to 30 countries. The final destination was Antarctica, where she pursued wildlife photography for a month.
Photography achievements and current status
The Shanghai Morning Post reported that the tumour shrank after this specific journey. Wang now uses her pension to buy advanced camera gear for bird photography. She has documented more than 1,200 different bird species since returning home.
