Australian study links anti-trans content exposure to worse mental health outcomes
A new Australian study published in Frontiers of Public Health found that frequent exposure to anti-trans stigma correlates with higher rates of anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts among trans people.

Survey covers hundreds of participants
Researchers surveyed 807 trans and gender-diverse individuals aged 16 or older. Many respondents described the stigma they faced online and in traditional media as relentless and omnipresent.
Stigma appears unavoidable for many
Over 70 per cent of participants reported seeing or hearing anti-trans content regularly. The lead author noted that such material is close to unavoidable in current news and social media environments.
Mental health gap has widened
Trans people in Australia experience poorer mental health outcomes than the general population. This disparity has grown significantly over the past 22 years according to the data.
